A mother vows to get justice when her daughter's life is destroyed by a sex video that goes viral.
Widowed mom Michelle Ross is thrilled when her shy teenage daughter Lexi goes out with the high-school football star, Greg. What she doesn't know is that Greg has an ulterior motive: to win a bet by sleeping with Lexi on their first date and capturing it all on video. Once Greg's bitter ex-girlfriend Carleigh hears about the "date" she starts emailing the video around school. Michelle vows to get justice.
The movie starts with vivid images of a video depicting a tryst between an unknown couple. Lexi Ross is introduced into the film with her family: her mother Michelle Ross and her old brother Shane Ross. They have their fair share of problems, especially with Shane who is a drunk and drug addict.
Lexi ends up meeting and starting a relationship with Greg Nickels, who had recently dumped his previous girlfriend Carleigh Taylor. They agree to have sex unbeknownst to Lexi that Greg was just fulfilling a bet with his friend Jared, that involves him filming the tryst between the two of the them.
Carleigh finds out that Greg made a bet with his friend Jared that he could have sex with Lexi, she becomes angry and decides to retaliate. She steals Greg's phone while he's in the school locker room and sends a video he made of his and Lexi's tryst and forwards it to several of their classmates, causing the video to go viral.
Later that night, at a party she holds, Carleigh makes a derogatory sexual remark to Lexi when she gets a hot dog from the barbecue. Lexi is humiliated and heartbroken when she learns about the video and Greg's bet and runs off. Carleigh is pleased at Lexi's embarrassment, but is visibility hurt when Greg calls her a bitch. Lexi runs out of the house but does not see a car coming towards her and is killed when it hits her. Which is witnessed by Greg and Jared as well as many of the other party goers. Greg, Lexi, and Jared are shown shocked and grief stricken by her death, especially Greg who breaks down in tears.
Lexi's mother Michelle is told the bad news by some police officers, who then tells her son Shane about his sister's death. They both want justice for Lexi especially Shane, who despite his hatred for law enforcement wants Greg arrested for child pornography and rape. But the detective in charge of the case Morris said they were both teens and they both consented, leaving Shane infuriated.
Greg is brought into the principal's office about the video and he denies sending it around, certain that Carleigh did it. Carleigh is also questioned with her father, who says that Greg is simply using his daughter as a scapegoat. Greg is suspended and he immediately confronts Carleigh, who is with Jared, her new boyfriend. When Carleigh denies her actions, Greg tries to attack her, but is restrained and forced to leave, but not before calling her a psycho.
Greg is later attacked by Lexi's vengeful brother Shane, who he manages to convince that he did not send out the video and that Carleigh was the one responsible. Greg however is arrested for having a sex with a minor.
After being released, Greg calls Carleigh and asks her to meet him in front of her house. He parks his car outside Carleigh's house and she gets in to talk to him. Greg eventually gets Carleigh to confess what she did, citing that she didn't do it to hurt Lexi, but to get back at Greg for breaking her heart and to show everyone who he really was.
Greg then reveals he had recorded Carleigh's confession on a hidden tape recorder before forcing her out of his car, he apologizes for breaking her heart but states that she was a bitch for what she did to Lexi. Panicked, Carleigh runs back inside, gets her father's gun, and goes after Greg. She catches Greg outside his house and forces her way in. Carleigh then points the gun at Greg and demands him to give her his recorder. Greg refuses and tries to grab the gun, but during the struggle it goes off and kills Greg.
Panicked, Carleigh takes Greg's tape recorder and makes a run for it, wiping her fingerprints off the door as she does. Later, she smashes the recorder and plants Greg's wallet in a toolbox behind the Ross household, framing Shane for Greg's murder. Greg's mother Brenda later returns home to find her son shot dead.
Shane is arrested for Greg's murder after the police find the planted evidence in his house. Afterwards Michelle visits and talks to Shane who reveals that he did in fact have a grudge against Greg, but ultimately he forgave him after Greg told him that Carleigh was responsible and that he most likely had found some proof to take her down.
Shane and Lexi's mother Michelle visits and convinces Greg's mother Brenda to work with her to prove Shane's innocence as she believes that Carleigh is responsible for their both of their children's deaths, they call Jared who is with Carleigh and learn that Greg went to the locker by himself and that the school had installed brand new surveillance cameras. All of which is overheard by Carleigh who unfortunately was with Jared during the phone call. Carleigh in a panic quickly leaves to head to the school.
Michelle and Brenda arrive at the school and sees that there was a security camera pointed at the boy's locker room entrance. They eventually find security footage from the school together with the school's principal that shows Carleigh entering and leaving the locker room during and after the time the text messages with the video of Lexi and Greg were sent out as the video is time stamped proving her involvement.
After learning about the security cameras and seeing them at the school, Carleigh becomes scared and confesses all of her actions to her father including what happened with Lexi and Greg's murder. He decides they need to get rid of the gun and head out to do so when they are stopped by Michelle and Brenda. They corner her by telling them about the evidence they collected and correctly deduce how and why she did what she did.
Desperate, Carleigh grabs the gun from her father's car and points it at the two women, saying she won't let them ruin her life. Carleigh in a rant, reveals how she had only tried to fix things and how Greg called her a psycho. She tries to kill herself but Michelle, Brenda, and her father John manage to calm her down. But although she manages to calm down, she accidentally shoots herself in the leg in a moment of dismay. She is then presumably arrested for murdering Greg and sending out the video of Lexi.
In the final scene, after a few months Shane who had been released from prison reveals to his mother that he had passed his exams, allowing him to get into a university they decide to go out to eat to celebrate.
