On the eve of D-Day, 1944, two german commanders are torn between their loyalty to their country and their distaste for Hitler. Colonel Erik Strucker (Rick Telesca) and Captain Hans Jaeger (Andy Wakeman) confront the realities of Hitler's Germany after Strucker makes a fateful decision to redeploy the Panzers. Strucker receives a commendation for his actions, but he is well aware that he has moved the Panzers where they would be useless should the Allies attack at Normandy, which he considers likely. Strucker has no interest in the commendation because he wants no part of Hitler's Germany and resents what his country has become under Hitler's illusion. He points out to Jaeger that he is nothing more than a soldier who fights only for his home and family. When Jaeger reveals that he too fights only for his home and family, Strucker expresses his hope that his actions will relieve his conscience without completly betraying his country.
