A real story with elements of fiction, just like life itself, is that of Bernabé Ruenes Santoveña. This man was sentenced to thirty years in jail after an altercation with an army officer while doing the military service. This conflict forced him to run to the hills in 1946. He first became a "fugao", and later a legendary bandit in Eastern Asturias. In spite of having disappeared in 1952, he became a myth. Shot with non professional actors, except for Fernando Martínez, who plays Bernabé, and with no state aid, this first feature in Asturian has been conceived, written and directed by Pablo Casanueva, a seventeen year old.—Gijón Film Festival
