Using extracts from individuals' diaries and some film records, this documentary series tells the story of the changes that occurred in Berlin (and Germany) during the pivotal year of 1933.

The year 1933, the year of the advent of the Third Reich, told from excerpts of writings, diaries, letters, speeches or press articles and accompanied by archival images of Berlin of the time. The words of diplomats, journalists, intellectuals, trade unionists, Nazi dignitaries or political opponents are mixed with those of ordinary Berliners - Hitler supporters, apolitical, Jewish - to nourish this chronicle of a fateful year of change.
