Summaries

This 45-minute documentary is about Warsaw Ghetto survivor Jerry Rawicki's return visit to Poland in 2013, his first since the Holocaust. Ethnographer Carolyn Ellis captures his thoughts and deep emotions on site in Poland as he visits the places he remembers--the Warsaw Ghetto wall, a Ghetto apartment building, and Umschlagplatz, the railway terminus from which Warsaw's Jews were transported to Treblinka. Mr. Rawicki talks about the killing of his mother and sister at Treblinka and his father at Poniatowa, a forced labor camp. He reflects on how place affects what and how he remembers as well as his attempt to work through his sadness about and forgiveness toward his homeland. Family members, as well as the project director, are interviewed for the film.—Anonymous
