Synopsis

A nasty fight between Dharam Gulati (Ranveer Singh) and Shyra Gill (Vaani Kapoor), which leads to a sudden break-up. Shyra calls Dharam a Desi boy who could never Delhi out of him, and Dharam calls Shyra a French promiscuous woman. Shyra leaves Dharam, and goes to her parents' house, asking them to let her in as long as they don't ask any questions about Dharam or their break-up. The night of his break-up, Dharam performs his stand-up act and mocks people in relationships and praises being single.

A quintessential Delhi boy Dharam Gulati comes to Paris for work in search of an adventure. Dharam hails from Karol Bagh, New Delhi, and is a stand-up comedian working in his friend, Mehra's (Aru Krishansh Verma) doomed restaurant Delly Belly Bar. To his surprise, he shares his room with a girl named Nathalie (Elisa Bachir Bey) who is a lesbian. Mehra takes him to a party where he bumps into a wild, free spirited, French born Indian girl Shyra Gill. Shyra is a tourist guide, whose parents are Indian, but who was born and raised in France.

They meet at a bar, where Dharam is striking out, but is honest with Shyra (about trying to hook up with a French person), which she digs. Shyra dares Dharam to win a chicken eating contest for a date with her, which he does. They end up partying and then sleeping together, but for Shyra it's just a fling. Dharam, is smitten with Shyra and pursues her (goes to her tour guide tour of Paris). Shyra is skeptical as she thinks Dharam will fall in love with her, and it will all become complicated. Dharam begs for one date and says that he will not pester her if she does not enjoy it. But Shyra is the daredevil type and wants Dharam to perform "dares" if he wants her to continue going out with him.She promises to go out on a date with him if he accepts her dare to slap a police officer. He does so, and they start dating.

A feisty romance ensues between the two in which both of their personalities - one being an equal match for the other are tested to the limit. Dares include Shyra performing a strip dance inside a library, Dharam stealing the football from a football match, Shyra kissing a random woman in the park, Shyra stealing a jeweled underwear from a showcase and Dharam wearing only that to a formal party, Shyra and Dharam having sex in a random room at the Westin and getting arrested the next morning.Soon, Shyra moves in with Dharam, over the feeble objections of her parents Joginder / Jogi (Akarsh Khurana) and Juhi (Ayesha Raza Mishra). Dharam meets Shyra's parents, who are chefs in their own Indian restaurant.

Things eventually reach their conclusion as Dharam & Shyra break up (the one at the beginning of the film). Shyra moves out, but they keep running into each other. Dharam loves the cornflakes that Shyra eats but doesn't know the brand. He goes shopping at the local supermarket and bumps into Shyra there. Shyra gives Dharam the box of cornflakes and agrees that they can be civil to each other in public.

Dharam hooks up with a single mom Marie (Paulie Deshons) but ends up taking her to a restaurant owned by Shyra's dad and where Shyra waitresses on the night when Dharam goes there. One of Dharam's dates steals his wallet and Dharam is arrested for drunk driving. He has to call Shyra to bail him out. He tells Shyra how he has grown up as a person and a flat mate and dares her to move in back with him. After much pleading, Shyra agrees to on a breakup anniversary with Dharam on the Pont Des Arts Bridge (also called the love lock bridge, which used to have more than 10 Lakh locks on it till the time the authorities removed the locks as it was weakening the structure of the bridge. Now padlocks are banned on the bridge). They swear never to fall in love with each other again and tie a breakup lock.

While being friends Shyra dates Anay (Arrmaan Ralhan), who is a banker, but knows how to have fun. Dharam also likes Anay a lot and they all end up having lots of fun together. Anay starts to get serious about Shyra and she reciprocates. Anay invites Shyra to a French Riviera weekend and asks Dharam to bring a date, so that Shyra feels more comfortable. Dharam picks a French person Christine (Julie Ordon) as his date. While Dharam spends the entire weekend having sex with his French hottie, Shyra has no such luck with Anay, who is hell bent on treating her like a lady. A few months later Anay proposes to Shyra. Shyra consults Dharam, who convinces her that Anay is the right guy for him. But inside, Dharam is devastated at losing her.

Dharam soon announces to Shyra that he wants to get engaged to his own girlfriend Christine. But Shyra retorts that Christine is not the right bride for Dharam. Dharam concludes that Shyra is still not over Dharam and hence doesn't want him to get married to anyone else. He announces his engagement at Shyra's engagement party, and this prompts Anay to announce that the 2 couples will get married on the same day at the same venue.

At the wedding venue Shyra and Dharam have to share a dance, which they end up doing in perfect synchronization. Shyra is in double mind and her mother advises her to follow her heart.Dharam calls Shyra and says that he can't marry Christine as he is not ready for marriage and also wants to stop it. Shyra tells Dharam to look Christine in the eye and tell her that he can't marry her. Dharam agrees and tell Shyra that he wishes that Shyra won't be getting married. Shyra dares him to break up her wedding. During the conversation, both start to realize they still love each other.

The next morning, at the wedding chapel, Dharam tells Anay not to marry Shyra as she basically sleeps around with different guys. Shyra slaps Dharam and dares him to tell the truth. Dharam tells Shyra that he loves her and can't live without her. Anay attacks Dharam and Christine attacks Shyra. They both escape and decide to get married and live thereafter.
