Based on the first part of Naguib Mahfouz's trilogy, the film depicts the life paths of Ahmed Abdul Jawad's family during the English occupation and before the outbreak of the 1919 revolution. This includes the head of the family who deals harshly with his family, while he lives a life of dissipation; his son Fahmi, who joins a secret political organization, and his oldest son who follows in the footsteps of his father in his womanizing.
