Who are the Basques? Why did they immigrate to the Western United States? How and why did they retain many parts of their ancient culture? The Basques have been around for generations adding their vibrant culture to the beauty of the West. The documentary we intend to make will tell the story of a people often overlooked in Northwestern history. The story will feature what Basques have done to add culture and vitality while living along the banks of the Snake River, through the passes of the Sawtooth Mountains, past the rims of the canyon lands of Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and California. The Basque youth will represent the hope and vigor of the Basque community, attempting to maintain its cultural uniqueness amid a constantly changing modern landscape.—Anonymous
