Of Soft Rock, NE, forty-somethings overly naive Barb and Star are never-lying, especially to each other, BFFs who spend all their time together in being coworkers, each who goes to work even on her day off to be with the other, and housemates, ever since the end of their respective marriages, Barb a widow, and Star whose ex-husband left her for another woman leaving her feeling unwomanly. Their perfect, at least in their own minds, narrow lives having never left Soft Rock take a few hits in succession making them decide to take a chance in breaking out of those lives by going on vacation, specifically to the seaside resort of Vista Del Mar, FL. While the start of their vacation doesn't go quite the way they had hoped or envisioned, they eventually and slowly settle into that vacation life in part when they meet handsome Edgar Pagét, in who both are interested romantically. Edgar has the potential to be the cause of the end of Barb and Star's friendship. What neither knows is that Edgar, who has stated that he is a clam inspector, is not who he says he is as he is in Vista Del Mar at the behest of his boss Sharon Gordon Fisherman, whose end goal is to kill everyone in town with specially developed killer mosquitoes for this purpose. While Sharon has her own personal motives for wanting everyone in town dead, Edgar is doing it solely for love in Sharon having strung him along for her end goal.
