The film is about the formation of youth, about the formation of characters, about entering an independent adult life. The main character, Pyotr Gorokhov, never does anything by halves. Cynicism, lethargy of the soul, and indifference are alien to him. Determined and passionate in everything, he earned himself the nickname "Balamut".
