Summaries

Appealing through songs, there are seven maudlin songs performed in the film, including one Indian track, a specialty of Ellya Khadam. Almost all of the characters sing, dubbed by professional singers. Dina performs all the sad songs. Her mother, a widow and a teacher, is married to Hendra, a widowed singer with two children. There is intrigue from the younger sibling of the husband, an old crone, and her lover, Abdullah the milkman, who try to destroy the marriage. Their attempt almost succeeds and the children run away. Hendra's parents-in-law, who come from the village, are offended by Ellya's treatment. So Ellya's secret is then revealed. The old crone has a mental illness. In the end, everything is resolved and Abdullah proposes to Ellya.—Mardali Syarief
