After graduating from the tank school with honors, Lieutenant Timofey Ermakov chooses the Karakum as his place of service. The youthful maximalism of a hereditary military collides with the real life of a linear tank regiment. Ermakov's arrival in the unit takes place during the conduct of hostilities of the USSR in Afghanistan.
