The beginning of the Tower Records art department. Interviews with the original artists that created the unique Tower Records display look.

California based Tower Records was THE place to purchase music around the world for decades. One of a kind promotional displays set the scene in each store and viewing them became a part of the record buying experience. Art Gods is the story of how one employee's idea inspired a chain wide artistic style and includes a wealth of photos, videos of in store musician appearances, and interviews with the artists who made it happen. The artists themselves are as unique as the stores and their stories are ripe from the great days of sex, drugs, and rock n roll. Audio interviews with store founder Russ Solomon offer insight into the family-owned Tower Records management culture, so refreshingly different from today's homogenized corporate and chain stores.—Heather Taylor
