The chief protagonists are Shivani and Aditya, a married couple with 2 children, Tanwi Gouri Mehta and Anand Mehta. They are wealthy and live in a mansion. Their idyllic life is shattered with the arrival of Sonia, who has an affair with Adiyta. Eventually, Aditya leaves his family for Sonia, leaving the wife and two kids alone. When it is found out that Sonia is barren, Aditya demands custody of his children from Shivani and approaches the courts for a custody battle. Eventually, the courts rule against Shivani and award custody to Aditya and Sonia. Shivani and Aditya Malhotra live a comfortable lifestyle in a palatial home with their two children, Tanula and Manula. After a few years Shivani finds out that Aditya is having an affair with a younger, attractive woman named Sonia. When she confronts Aditya, he admits he is in love with Sonia, so they separate. When Sonia is unable to conceive, Aditya asks Shivani to give him custody of the children, and on refusal, Aditya approaches the Courts for custody. Shivani is determined to keep the children, however, the matter keeps on getting postponed, and soon she loses track, and on one occasion when she is absent, the Court decides in Aditya's favor and grants custody of both children to him.
