Documentary and fictionalized dramatization of Andre Tarkovsky's time in the East Siberian taiga prospecting for diamonds as part of a secret state-sponsored scientific expedition in 1953 which led to his desire to become a filmmaker. Includes an adaptation of some sequences from Tarkovsky's autobiographically-based short story "The Concentrate" (Konsentrat), about his year-long trek through the taiga with the expedition, which he wrote as a film script for his entrance examination into film school the following year.
