Follow Ms. Gorig's characters through personal stages of decay and rebirth that mirror the state of our environment.
An unnamed woman has been been devastated by a violent assault. The devastation of her own spirit is mirrored in the film by the devastation of the planet through global warming. The Earth has been assaulted by humanity itself, and now can no longer recover. Like the woman, it too retreats, and is submerged beneath a damaged surface.—anonymous
"And When the Night Turned Black" is a film that uses a daring mix of techniques, ranging from old Hollywood melodrama to the newest of digital video to create a fully-realized world of surreal, lyrically poetic and abstract images that follow Ms. Gorig's characters through personal stages of decay and rebirth that mirror the state of our environment -urban and pastoral, modern and ancient. By the use of uniquely provocative imagery and motifs that build layer upon layer of varied meanings, Ms. Gorig's steady, intimate voice and unflinching eye take the viewer on mind-blowing journey of passion and elegiac beauty in all its forms.—david mark speer
