The bread-winning daughter in a middle-class family fails to return from work one evening. The night begins with worries at home, followed by midnight searches and finally a deepening crisis arising out of economic and moral constraints prevalent in the society. A young woman, Chinu is the sole breadwinner supporting a family of seven headed by a retired clerk and his wife. One night, she does not return home from the office and, as the hours pass, the family grows increasingly distraught as each member, including the independent-seeming university student Minu, begins to realize how dependent they are on Chinu's labour.—M.Sen
