An American Love is an honest attempt to show an interracial relationship in today's America and the difficulties that still exist, not just between black and white relationships, but man and woman and the struggle for love to persevere through pain. Shot entirely in New York City, it is a story of race, identity, love, and pain. Carlton works in the mail room struggling to be a full-time writer while his live in girlfriend Ashley, a producer for a hit web series, progresses at her job. Carlton's confusion about his place in the world only adds to the already growing tension in his relationship.
