Summaries

Amok departs from three related and contrasting characters, namely Wan Man, a village youth who once learned martial arts from Pak Guru. He then gets caught up in a love affair with an American woman, Natalie - a volunteer from the American Peace Corp who came to a village on the East coast with the aim of completing her Ph.D studies on Malay Psychics. Natalie is described as a free girl, part of the Flower Generation that arose as a result of the influence of wood stock and practiced free sex. While Wan Man's friend Ram is also influenced by the free life brought by western tourists and also practices free sex. The film is set in the early 1970s, an era influenced by hippies, rock music, drugs, Vietnam war protests by young Americans, and wood stock in America. The traditional culture practiced by Wan Man founded by his martial arts teacher in the village, and the inner heritage inherited by Wan Man and his father Wan Setia are shocked by the clash with the wild culture brought by Natalie. All of these feelings finally exploded with fury.
