It took another ruined Christmas dinner to make Martha finally realize that her kids are jerks. Her daughter Penny is a 42-year-old bully who's still letting having been Prom Queen go to her head. Penny's brother Danny, 57, is a scam artist who owes the state more than he could get for selling his organs. To top it off, Martha's husband has washed his hands of the whole mess. While she's sweeping up the shattered china, he's upstairs watching "It's a Wonderful Life" in his underwear. But this Christmas, Martha has had enough. With help from her grandson Sully, Martha is determined to make each of her family members face their ghosts of Christmas past. Will three surprise guests inspire them to turn their lives around? Or will this gift be a Pandora's Box she can't re-wrap? And what happens when Martha gets a taste of her own Christmas medicine? Find out whether Martha's plans will bring her family together or truly tear them all apart. Either way it is sure to be a very odd American Christmas.

Synopsis

It took another ruined Christmas dinner to make Martha Larson (Marcia Rodd) finally realize: her kids are rude self-absorbed assholes. Daughter, Penny (Tara Reid) is a 42-year old bully who's still letting her Prom Queen title get to her head and cucks her husband Gary (Steve Nevil) in front of her family. Son, Danny (Robert Carradine), 57, is a gambling addict who is awash in debt. To top it off, Martha's husband Rob (John Ashton) has washed his hands of the whole mess and vowed to spend all future Christmases alone, drunk and in his underwear in the bedroom. She resolves to teach her family a lesson and has one full year to prepare.This Christmas, Martha has had enough. With the help of her grandson, Sully (Ben Solenberger), Martha is determined to make each of her family members face their ghosts of Christmas past. Nancy arrives before Martha and Sully are home from the store and faces the wrath of the already intoxicated Rob. Sully pulls a coaster wagon down the street loaded with Christmas decorations. The next-door neighbors greet Sully and try to invite themselves for Christmas. Sully rebuffs their offer saying that the Larson's will be engaging in a "Revenge Christmas" this year. Three surprise guests are invited to visit to inspire these losers to turn their lives around. Martha's gift becomes a Pandora's Box you can't re-wrap.Danny, Penny and Gary are delayed in their entry into the Larson home. Finally, after announcing Gary's bladder problems to the neighborhood, the Larson kids are allowed to come in. Sully nearly electrocutes himself with the Christmas lights before Martha starts her presentation.Martha announces that her children will be visited by their ghost of Christmas Past. The first guest to arrive is Janet (also known as "Mama Bear") and immediately calls Danny "Piglet" much to the delight of Penny. She knew Danny 30 years ago when his gambling addiction began. Danny had run up a mountain of debt in her basement casino and she used physical methods to collect which had Piglet running scared. Sully reveals his method of tracking her down using Google. Janet discusses how the gambling hall in her basement was raided and those present got deals to testify against her and send her to prison. Martha calls for the forgiveness ceremony.Penny decides to pass on the forgiveness ceremony and retreats to the bathroom where she finds Gary. She huffs the helium in a balloon and declares her love for Gary.Mama Bear forgives the debt that Danny run up when they were young. Danny admits he ran off and was less than responsible about paying off his debts. Janet forgives herself for introducing Danny to such a reckless lifestyle and all the heartache it caused. She feels like a weight has been lifted from her shoulders. Danny, however, doesn't seem to feel the same sense of relief.As Janet is about to leave, Danny asks for real forgiveness. He admits to Janet that he is the one that called the cops. Janet promptly slugs him. Then she explains that she spent seven years in the women's reformatory and tried to make it in life with a felony on her record. She leaves telling Danny he must pay with his life. Danny is distraught. When Gary suggests calling the police, Danny defers and knows he must live up to the consequences of his actions. Meanwhile, Rob calls from the bedroom for Sully to deliver more beer.When the doorbell rings again, the neighbors again try to invite themselves in for Christmas nog. Sully thinks they are swingers and fends them off. Penny is very apprehensive about meeting her Christmas ghost. The doorbell rings again, but when Sully answers the door, no one is there.Penny's ghost has snuck around to the back and let himself in. Penny attacks him with a taser. It's Hanki Harolson (Fred Stoller) who Penny used to tease and terrorize in her school days. Penny claims not to even remember Spanky Hanki. As various family members conclude Penny is incapable of sympathy, Penny lashes out at everyone feeling corned. Gary is so upset he decides to excuse himself and leave the party. Sully reveals that Hanki is worth millions. Hanki revels he made money in solar powered submarines and that he is there to provide inspiration to Penny. He says that once he stopped caring what everyone else thought of him, he blossomed. He believes that Penny is so mean to everyone who care about her is because she is afraid of getting hurt. Penny is unmoved, and Hanki leaves giving Penny every chance to recant.Sully hears music outside and Martha reveals she invited a ghost of Christmas yet to come for Sully. Sully finds Nancy in the garage having set up a puppet show as part of her new business to entertain the family. Nancy enthusiastically announces her show to Danny and Penny who follow her out. Martha, disappointed on how the evening has progressed, goes to take a nap. Sully asks his uncle on why to have a family. Rob cannot defend the decision to have a family, grabs more beer and returns to his bedroom.Nancy begins a Christmas Carol production, but Danny and Penny continually steal the puppets to imitate family members. Nancy is unfazed, thinking she is making a connection to her audience, as Danny and Penny imitate their father and mother. Nancy offers Sully the roll of Tiny Tim and reveals Sully is the crutch for everyone else in the family but most in need of a happy Christmas. After seeing the "Death", the puppet that represents the ghost of Christmas future, Penny and Danny realize they only have a few more Christmases with their parents.Gary wanders into a local tavern where Hanki is getting inebriated. Hanki gives the advice to not become a billionaire because you can never find real love and true friendship. He tells Gary to cultivate the relationships that matter like his one with Penny. The whole bar clears when the dishwasher (who is the bartender's grandfather) goes in search of a Christmas hooker.Back at the house, Danny is accosted by Lee (Clint Howard), a man with a gun behind the refrigerator. He leads Danny into the living room where "Mama Bear" Janet awaits. They are there to take Danny for a drive to make him squeal. Danny only wishes to be able to bring his son Sully a beer before he leaves. The neighbors are listening in and think they ate hearing the sexual innuendo of swingers as they hear Lee and Janet tell Danny how they are going to torture him. Lee goes to lock the doors when Rob throws the Christmas tree at Lee. Lee is pinned under the tree and loses his gun. Mama Bear snatches the gun and has two guns pointed at Danny and Rob. Martha seeks up from behind and tases Mama Bear. Martha does the same to Lee. Rob is turned on by his strong wife. Martha admits she was wrong to bring Janet there which impresses DannyHanki drives Gary back to the Larson house. Penny greets Gary and apologizes to both Gary and Hanki, realizing she has been mean and self-centered. Hanki makes a move on Penny thinking they were going to be swingers before he departs. Sully and Nancy continue to make out. The Larson family, despite their flaws, all love each other and pull together as a family for Christmas. As Santa (Rhomeyn Johnson) sums up the events of the evening, a group of swingers wander by looking for the party and are summoned in by the neighbors.
