Synopsis

Alois Brunner: The Last Nazi is a shocking and penetrating study of an unclosed chapter of World War II history. It is the story of an international hunt for justice. Alois Brunner is a widely known Nazi war criminal, a former SS commander who sent more than 128,500 European Jews to their deaths. Brunner has been living comfortably in Syria since 1959, making a living as an intelligence expert counseling government officials in Damascus.

Germany, France, Austria and Greece have demanded his extradition. And last year, the French government convicted him in absentia for crimes against humanity.

The Last Nazi includes interviews with many of the people most closely involved in the case, including Gunther Deschner, the last journalist to have interviewed Brunner; Serge Klarsfeld, a Nazi hunter whose father was murdered by Brunner; and former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. It exposes Brunners connection to the Gehlen Organization, the postwar intelligence network based in West Germany. Many members of the Gehlen Organization were former Nazi SS officers and their collaborators whose activities were directly linked to and on the payroll of the CIA.

Alois Brunner: The Last Nazi tells the story of how Alois Brunner escaped justice, who protected him and why.
