Almost Lost tells the distinct yet intertwining stories of four Chinese international students living in the city of Toronto, happening simultaneously on a hot summer day. Raymond faces the dilemma of choosing work over his final exam - expelled from school during his final year. The person who catches Raymond cheating is his Teacher Assistant, Grace, whose parents just landed in Canada for the graduation ceremony of her Master's Degree. Their joy of the long awaited family reunion is ruined by an engagement announcement to her long-term girlfriend. In a different corner of the city, Tim is trying to borrow some money from a "rich kid" named Garry, who has convinced Tim to kidnap a little girl in return for Garry's revenge on an old man. Meanwhile, Gloria, a reserved and withdrawn girl, desperately wants to connect with people. She hopes to find companionship through her part-time job as a sex worker, but comes to find out that her classmates are among her customers. The lives of these seemingly unrelated young people are connected by the city, they have just scattered fragments of thousands of young people who have studied here and struggled to find their own places.
