Set in Alentejo in the mid-19th century, in the period following the Liberal Wars. In a sparsely populated and almost wild land, without shadow and without law, violence dictates the existence of Bando do Zarolho.
Alentejo Lawless Land is a short series centered on the political struggle between the conservative and the liberal monarchist factions for the throne of Portugal, in the period of 1828 and 1843. Alentejo, the vast planes south of the Tagus river, poor in agricultural productivity and void of industrial resources, saw the political struggle of the nobles aggravated with the class struggle between the handful of land owners, and the mass of jobless have-nots. The empire of law faltered, and sheer power became law.—Artemis-9
