Synopsis

Raj Malhotra (Akshay Kumar), Priya Saxena (Kareena Kapoor) accidentally meet each other. Priya was looking for a job as a law intern and had to attend an interview at house number 13, but she misunderstood and went into house number 30, right across the road, which belonged to Raj. At the same time, Raj was expecting a house maid to arrive for an interview. The real housemaid Kanchan (Upasana Singh) ends up having a similar confusion and goes to house number 13, where she meets lawyer Ram Chotrani.

Raj is attracted to Priya and understands that this is a case of misunderstanding. Raj is Ram's good friend and knows that Priya had come to interview with him. He still hires her for Rs 3000 per month. Ram has a similar reaction to Kanchan and hires her for Rs 1500 per month and she stays at Ram's house. Raj realizes that the maid meant for him is working at Ram's place.

Eventually, Priya finds the truth when Ram comes over to Raj's place. Priya likes Raj's simplicity (as he does not lie and confesses the truth) and soon they fall in love and get married. Meanwhile, Ram marries Kanchan.

One day Priya gets pregnant, and the couple is very happy. Raj even buys a bungalow for the couple. They are very happy with their new lives.Priya has completed her LLB but gives up her work as a lawyer to be with Raj.

Raj is expecting a promotion to CEO on the annual company day. The chairman Ranjit Roy (Amrish Puri) arrives with his new wife, and Sonia Roy (Priyanka Chopra). Sonia is the new MD of the company where Raj works. Sonia Roy sees Raj and goes to the stage. She discusses something with the chairman and then announces the promotions. The post that Raj was expecting was given to his friend Rakesh (Vivek Shauq). To Raj's surprise, he is included in the list of Board of Directors.

They had a party that night and Priya also comes with Raj, and they all enjoy. Sonia starts flirting with Raj even in front of Priya. Priya doesn't like Sonia's behavior and warns Raj to watch out for her. Raj agrees.The next day, Rakesh tells Raj that they have a defect in their new mobile handsets and its production needs to stop. The defect is that the call goes to two people at once, the one we are trying to call, and the next number stored in the phone's contact list. Raj needs Sonia's permission to stop production of the handsets till the issue is resolved. Raj thus goes to Sonia's home.

Sonia tells Raj that she has got a chance to meet him after long years (indicating that they had a prior relationship) and thus she is very aroused. She hugs him from the back all of a sudden while he was talking to his friend Amar (who is also his bank manager) in Bangkok. She tries to seduce him, but Raj denies her and goes home. Sonia is angry with Raj and tells her husband, Mr. Roy that Raj tried to sexually assault her and exploit her. Roy becomes angry and gives Raj his termination notice.

Raj objects by saying that he didn't sexually assault Sonia, but his colleagues and Rakesh don't believe him. During breakfast, the following day, Raj's friend Ram advises him to resign despite him believing Raj, thinking society would not believe him and it is less likely for him to win the case, if he files a case against Sonia. Ram explains that if Raj loses the case, he will be ostracized from society and will be demonized by the media to an extent that he will never get any other job.

At the end of the day, Priya finds the resignation letter in his jacket pocket to which Raj explains why he is resigning, she however, doesn't want him to resign since the lie will be assumed as the truth if he does, at which point, Raj decides to send the case to court, gaining media attention.

Raj requests his lawyer friend, Barrister Ram Chotrani (Annu Kapoor) fight his case, and he agrees. In the meantime, Sonia and Mr. Roy have hired Lawyer Patel (Paresh Rawal). Advocate Ravi Patel tries to humiliate Raj by revealing past drunken comments and showing scratches on his back to paint him as guilty. Despite the pressure, Raj stands firm.

When it looks like there is no hope, Raj's friend Amar who was in Bangkok returns and hands him over a tape in which their talk in Sonia's house was recorded. Raj gives the tape to Ram and the lawyer tests it in a forensic lab and concludes that it is real, but he is run over while returning by a person deployed by Sonia. At that moment Ram's assistant takes the cassette and puts a destroyed cassette in its place. He hands over the original cassette to Sonia, who had orchestrated Ram's death. Ram's assistant was working for Sonia.

Priya asks Raj why he called the bank manager from Sonia's house (on the day when Sonia tried to sexually assault him), and Raj realizes he didn't call the manager, but he only called Rakesh, and the defect in the mobile connected the line to the bank manager as well. This means that Rakesh would be a witness to the conversation between Raj and Sonia or the conversation would be recorded on his voicemail as well.

Priya, who is also a lawyer, now fights the case due to the accident of Raj's previous lawyer, Mr. Chotrani. Priya uses Rakesh's mobile as evidence against Sonia along with the fact that Sonia met Raj in South Africa eight years ago. Sonia was a model, and they met when Sonia came to audition for a modeling role with Rakesh's mobile firm.Their infatuation for each other led to Sonia becoming pregnant with Raj's child. However, Sonia and Raj split as Sonia wanted to abort their child, for she lusted for money, status, luxury and power.

The baby was a wall between her dreams of becoming rich. After Raj left her, Sonia aborted their child and bumped into Roy. Priya had reports from the Cape Town nursing home where Sonia had the abortion.Seeing her chance, Sonia hit the jackpot, and married Roy, who was much older than her. However, Roy wasn't able to give Sonia any sexual pleasure, so Sonia tried to seduce Raj, but being the loyal husband, Raj rejected her sexual advances.Priya summons Rakesh to the stand and plays the voicemail message recorded on his phone.As a result, Priya wins the case and Roy leaves Sonia.

Feeling humiliated and guilty, Sonia is unable to bear the shame and commits suicide by jumping from the top of a building. Raj and Priya have a baby boy and live together happily ever after.
