Made up of three substantial, yet uniquely identifiable Christmas tales, ADVENT sees many specific lives all caught up over the course of one December 24th. In the first segment, HO-HO-HOSTAGE, we follow Mary and David along with their son Dylan, who has recently lost faith in there being a real Father Christmas after seeing how sad his parents are who are out of work. As the local Christmas Eve soup kitchen they are attending, begins to shut up for the evening, Dylan, his folks and their friends Santa Suzie and Mary find three criminals led by Ant, trying to steal some of the building's financial assets. As the family and friends are taken hostage by these three festive robbers, it is up to one of Christmas' original visitors to step in and help out. Continuing with the spirit of the season, THREE GHOSTS, chronicles the desperate Wilkinson family. Their only hope? Three Christmas ghosts, who are determined to show each of them how their potential actions can have many emotional repercussions and that their presence in the world is a blessing and not a hindrance, as they believe. Concluding this new bold anthology is the third segment, DOMINIK, which tells the story of a quiet and gentle stranger, who begins to appear at Midnight Mass every Christmas Eve at a local nearby church. As Susan Wormbourne and her husband, Colin, the vicar, attempt to find out who the young man is, they discover his heart-breaking and tragic past, one that finds him now lost in a country he does not originally come from. As ADVENT concludes, the characters and events help reaffirm that Christmas is not just a time for gift-giving, mince pies and office parties, but also a time when we need to watch out for those in society more vulnerable than ourselves, and to reach out and lend a helping hand in a more complex and contemporary time.
