The documentary series Aanwinst introduces us to seven contemporary artists and their iconic works that have recently been added to the art collection of the Flemish Community. With more than 7,000 artworks, this collection is an important treasure trove, of which only a small part is visible in museums. Each episode focuses on one artist, allowing us to discover their inspiration, creative processes, and use of various media such as painting, sculpture, installation art, video, and performance. The works are literally brought out of the museum depots, and we explore the impact of these acquisitions on the artistic lives of the artists. The series goes beyond individual portraits, opening a dialogue on social themes such as colonialism, identity, and activism, while making diverse art forms accessible. Aanwinst showcases the versatility of the Flemish contemporary art scene and brings us closer to the artists who enrich our culture.
