After being betrayed by the woman he loves, a doctor is accused of killing her husband.

Manish is a newly-qualified doctor. He meets Neena in Kashmir and they fall in love. Manish's brother is a lawyer who is a very close friend of Shekhar who lives in Delhi. Shekhar's wife is Neena's sister. She and Shekhar love with each other very much but have no offspring. Shekhar's wife gets poisoned and on her death-bed, she extracts a promise from her sister that she will marry Shekhar. Neena marries Shekhar. When Manish gets a job in Kashmir, he stays with Shekhar and discovers that Neena is now married. They have a difficult adjustment period during which certain imposters exploit the situation to cause misunderstandings. Then Shekhar is poisoned in hospital and Manish is accused of murder. Srinagar-based P.K. Anand lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his wife, Tilotma; two children, Manoj and Madhu; and a younger brother, Manish Kumar, who has recently acquired a degree in Medicine. Manish then meets and falls in love with Neena, whose sister, Sharda, is married to Anand's friend Chandrashekhar Verma. Anand would like to see his brother married, but before that could happen, Manish gets a job but is reluctant to accept it as he wants to be close to Neena. He subsequently changes his mind when he finds that she has gone to visit her sister in the same city where he is supposed to be employed. He re-locates there but is shocked to find her married to recently widowed Chandrashekhar. Devastated, unable to get any clarification from her, he takes to alcohol and then decides to leave. When Anand, who is now a Public Prosecutor, is informed that his brother has not shown up for work, travels to meet with Chandrashekhar, is shocked to learn of Manish's behavior, and he returns home and asks him to leave.
