A Temple to the commons is set in an obscure village in the south of India, where for sixty a years a local cultural group has engaged with the world outside through a robust cultural practice. They watch the latest cinema, and perform plays ranging from Shakespeare to the modern and support a theater with 600 seats for a village of a 1000 people. They open the possibility that a cultural engagement could be a pillar of community rather than caste, language or religion.
