Laura Sergeant (Leatrice Joy) and her husband Humphrey (Sidney Blackmer) operate a scam scheme to extort money from millionaires through blackmail and victimization until she mistakenly victimizes Tony Williams (Walter Pidgeon), the man she really loves.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
Laura Sargeant takes a tip in the stock market from a financier to help her husband Humphrey repay Bradford-Fish his loans, and Humphrey crashes. Out of contrition she agrees to join her husband in blackmailing John Williams; then Laura meets and falls in love with Williams' nephew Tony. When she tries to save Tony from a similar blackmail situation, but fails, he is disillusioned by her trickery and hurriedly marries Joan Porter. Laura leaves Humphrey and goes to Paris for a divorce. There she becomes a cafe singer and again meets Tony and Joan with Pedro, a gigolo with whom Joan is wildly infatuated. Realizing that Tony is seeking a divorce from Joan, Laura finds happiness with him.
