Nina, a translator, secretly watches her estranged 8-year-old daughter Varia, adopted by the Gromovs. After Varia's adoptive mother dies, Nina poses as a nanny to be closer to her.

Nina Nikitina, who works for a translation agency, is also busy with preparations for her upcoming wedding. But from time to time and in total secrecy, she leaves her office to watch, from a careful and discreet distance, an 8-year-old girl called Varia. In fact little Varia is Nina's daughter whom she rejected after giving birth to her. Nina cannot forgive herself for this cruel decision, but gaining custody of Varia now is impossible, as the girl has two wonderful adoptive parents, Masha and Andrey Gromov. But when Nina learns that Varia's adoptive mother has died in a car accident, she is beside herself with worry, well imagining what the orphaned girl is now going through. To be closer to her daughter, Nina decides to leave her job and enter the Gromov household posing as a nanny and child psychologist.
