Summaries

Miklós Pálfalvy, the easy-going son of a wealthy landowner, gets involved in bill forgery. The fake paper falls into the hands of his future father-in-law, the banker Mihályi, who blackmails the young man with it. Miklós breaks up with the Mihályi and decides to travel abroad with the rest of his money. Before leaving, he visits the beautiful flower seller Jessy, whom he has been attracted to for some time. After the beautiful day spent together, Miklós is arrested and sent to prison. In desperation, he attempts suicide, but later, when he starts working in the prison blacksmith's workshop on the advice of the priest, the pleasant fatigue of the hard work and the blacksmith's sober philosophy heal his soul.
