After his girlfriend's pregnancy forces him to marry her, a young man must adjust to his new life and contend with his domineering mother-in-law.

A young man, inching his way up from working-class traditions via a white-collar job, finds himself trapped by the frightening reality of his girlfriend's pregnancy and is forced into marrying her and moving in with his mother-in-law due to a housing shortage in their Northern England town.—alfiehitchie

Manchester, England. Still living with his parents, local factory draftsman Vic Brown finds himself stuck in a humdrum existence and the repetitive cycle of working-class male angst. But soon, Vic catches the eye of pretty Ingrid, a blonde typist working downstairs. As a result, a short courtship leads to big promises, an unwanted pregnancy, and a hasty wedding. But expectations and reality are two entirely different things. After all, Vic lives under the same roof with a wife he doesn't care for and her meddling, disapproving mother. Now, obliged to do his part and keep up appearances, Vic feels trapped, forced to abandon all hopes for something greater. And when disaster strikes, miserable Vic realises enough is enough--he wants out.—Nick Riganas
