A local hardware store owner who purchases a run-down house in a small Colorado town, only for the heir of the original owner to show up with his 10-year-old son to reclaim it.

Ella, who runs the town's hardware store, finally gets approval from the municipality to take over the abandoned house outside of town. However, she barely steps inside before Daniel and his son show up. The house belonged to his aunt, and now he is claiming it as his own. After the initial conflict, they agree to temporarily live together in the house while waiting for the municipality's decision on who has the rightful claim. Ella takes on the task of starting the restoration in exchange for being allowed to stay there (she had already moved out of her old apartment). It turns into a stay filled with conflict, as both want the house.
