In 1930s Vienna, two best friends, a Jewish girl and a fascist's daughter, both witness the unification of Germany and Austria, and question the impact it has on their lives.

Inge Dournenvald and Lise Mueller are best friends in pre-World War II Austria, despite the fact that Inge is Jewish and Lise is the daughter of a Nazi sympathizer. When they are forbidden to see each other, they meet secretly.
