Summaries

The sculptress Galya is introduced to young engineer Mitya, but has lost her heart to the enigmatic Andrei, who is married. Mitya proposes to her, but she declines. She loves only Andrei.

Galina works as a restorer in the Tsarskoye Selo Catherine Palace. She is a sculptor and takes her profession very seriously and passionately. A friend from art school, Vera, wishing to arrange Galina's personal and essentially lonely life, introduces her at home to her husband's colleagues - a young talented engineer Mitya Velikhov and Andrey. Mitya clearly likes Galina, and he begins to actively look after her: they spend time in the company of mutual friends, relax together, but Galina loves another person - the silent and a little mysterious Andrey. Fleeting chance meetings with Andrey do not give her a reason to think that he is also carried away by her, and Galina does not dare to express her feelings first. Andrei is married, so she goes headlong into her favorite work and, having become close to a serious-minded Mitya, subsequently refuses to marry him. The film ends with a lyrical scene of regret and farewell to the music of Evgeny Krylatov.—seventhriotontheship
