On 1 May 1928, LNER locomotive 4472 'Flying Scotsman' made the inaugural run of a non-stop service from London King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverley. Now, exactly forty years later on 1 May 1968, Alan Pegler, owner of the locomotive Flying Scotsman since British Railways sold her in 1963, attempts to recreate the run.
