Bani Chowdhury and solicitor Ajoy Kumar are deeply in love with each other. But their world comes crashing down when Bani's cousin, Maya is found dead in the first class compartment at a railway terminus in Bombay. Bani who had gone to the station to receive Maya, is charged with the murder. A distraught Ajoy with the help of his assistant Motilal Sharma begins to comb the country for every available clue. At exactly 12 Noon at Dadar Railway Station, Bombay, two gunshots are fired, instantly killing Maya (Sabita chatterji), the wife of Raimohan (Rehman). One of the assailants is none other Maya's sister, Bali Choudhary (Waheeda Rehman), and a gun is recovered from her handbag. The second assailant flees on a motor-bike, meets with an accident, and is instantly killed. The police charge Bali with murdering her sister.
