An actress is afraid for her career when her agent decides to hire a young provincial with a fabulous voice.

At the end of the 1920s, during the advent of talking cinema, the great star of the silent Stella Dora found himself with a huge handicap: her voice - She was on the verge of suicide when Roger, her lover, director had an idea decisive: for Stella's next film where she has to sing, he uses Madeleine, a little provincial maid with a sublime voice, who will double her, at first without her knowing it. Animosity and rivalry gradually set in between Stella and Madeleine, and the latter is not mentioned when Stella achieves great success with her film. Disappointed and angry, Madeleine is enticed by a dubious producer, who improvises himself impresario, to make his debut on the stage. She will quickly be disillusioned.
