Summary In 1947, under the secret order of Military Statistics Bureau (MSB), Wang Huatang, a special agent of Kuomintang Party (KMT), slips into the liberated rear area of the Communist Party of China (CPC), leading a squad to assault the local government and to assassinate the secretary and warden of the local committee. Jiang Dianren, who lurks in for a long time, spies for Wang Huatang and helps KMT attack Shandong liberated area by sabotage and disruption. Sun Chengzu, Wang Huatang's nephew, defects and sabotages secretly. His wife Wang Zhuozi is also in collusion with Wang Huatang. She plans to seduce Zhang Tao, the warden of Shandong liberated area. Sun Chengzu pretends to be a war hero and assaults soldier's dependent indecently. Sun Junying, president of Women's Patriotic Association, takes advantage of her position, to instigate people to rebel against the liberated rear area government. Jiang Zhongting, Sun's husband, comes back to the village secretly as a "deserter'. However, his identity is very mysterious. The relationships between all these characters are extremely intertwined. The agents of KMT are so rampant that the special agents of CPC are assassinated continuously. The battle between two sides is escalating.
