Police Major Vasilisa Zhuravlyova lives and serves in a small town. There are practically no serious criminal incidents here, and Vasilisa knows all the local lawbreakers by heart. However, the peace of this quiet place is disturbed by a murder that turns the lives of the townspeople upside down, revealing the secrets of the past. Vasilisa does not even imagine that the investigation will affect her entire close circle. And most importantly, it will put her before a difficult choice - to make public the terrible truth that has been revealed or to maintain peace in the city and her family.

In Jinxiu Village, there is a nationally renowned silk shop "Yongtaixiang", where the process of raising silkworms and making silk is handled by the women of "Bingyu Tang". Bing Yu Tang is a big family organized only by girls and women, all of them are very co-operative and hard-working. When joining the Ice and Jade Hall, all of them have to take an oath not to get married for the rest of their lives, and if they have an affair with a man, they will be punished by being immersed in a pigsty. The head of the family, Luo Qigu, is a very dignified old woman, and all the villagers are afraid of her. Chen Jian, the owner of Yongtaixiang, has two sons, a daughter and an adopted son. The first and second sons are born to two wives, who do nothing but eat, drink, whore and gamble, while the adopted son, Chen Fugui, is a very hardworking man, who is loved by the owner but disliked by the rest of the village. In the village, there is also a very good rice noodle cook, Ma Gu; a woman who fled from abroad, Sang Zhi; Chen Jian's daughter's boyfriend, who is actually a hustler; and another big family in the village, Liang Chun, who owns a pawnshop, and his daughter, ....... The story revolves around these characters, and the complexity of the relationship is the main plot, with a lot of secrets and past events gradually surfacing. emerge, and new problems keep happening at the same time.
