The first instalment of Weapon of the Century travels back in time and delves into the background of the AK-47, one of the most notorious weapons in history. This episode will examine Mikhail Kalashnikov's motivations and influences in creating such a significant weapon. It will also examine the numerous aspects contributing to the AK-47's prominence as one of the world's most extensively used and iconic weapons. From the weapon's beginnings shortly after World War II, to the 1956 Hungarian Uprising and the Vietnam War of 1965, the tale of the weapon will be explored from the perspectives of military historians, ex-reconnaissance personnel, a specialist AK collector, and the vital historic battles in which it was deployed.

The AK-47's history and revolution are explored in greater detail in the second installment of Weapon of the Century. This weapon has now been in use for over 75 years and is the Gun that has been used the most frequently in armaments history. This episode will look at the weapon's crucial role in the history of warfare, from past times to the present. We continue to look at the many factors that have helped make the AK-47 one of the most well-known and widely distributed guns in the world. This spectacular showcase of the 'Gun of War' continue its legacy with the 1979 Soviet/Afghanistan War, to the 1975 Angola Civil War, and the U.S. - Afghanistan War of 2001. We also take a look at the popularity of the weapon in '3-gun Sport shooting' as a recreational activity. The tale of the weapon is explored from the perspectives of military historians, ex-reconnaissance personnel, a specialist AK collector, and the key historic battles in which it was deployed.
