Utopia: The Scattered Body and the World Upside Down

Life in Karatas Village runs along an untroubled path, until its patriarchal way of life is challenged by Ulbolsyn, a woman whose coldblooded heart and blazing temperament are not afraid of setting everything on fire.

Olga Kriga, a boardinghouse girl who dreams of becoming a great actress, is turned down by a theater manager because of the jealousy of the leading lady. She then accompanies her admirer, John Knight, a young flivver salesman, when he accepts an agency offered in a small Balkan country. Karl, an alien, avows that Olga is his beloved "Queen" and begs her to return with him to Sylvania; at the hotel, Count Mirko and his ministers greet her. Count Mirko perceives the resemblance and quickly formulates a scheme to gain wealth and power in the country with Olga posing as the lost queen returning to free the people from tyranny. Accompanied by John, Olga arrives in Sylvania, where the uneasy tyrant, Vorski, agrees to pay for her removal; but after revolt she ascends the throne. Happiness restored, Olga returns to New York with John.

Based on a true story, this is an intense film of family love and values. A middle class mother of three discovers that her son is a heroin addict. An American flight attendant escaping from a bad relationship flees to Israel. She gets involved with an Israeli who takes her to the kibbutz where he grew up, to meet his family. He's sort of a charming longhair, but it turns out the flight attendant is pregnant by her old boyfriend, who then shows up.

Single father Kenichi has raised his daughter Miki alone for the past ten years, from when she attended nursery school until her graduation from elementary school. Kenichi is currently 30 years old. His wife Tomoko died at a young age and he has raised Miki alone since that time. While raising his daughter alone, he has encountered various problems.

Luiz, a sociologist, had his political rights suppressed, during the Brazilian military dictatorship. Also, his wife Ruth had been tortured and killed. So he decides to hide in his niece Natércia and her husband Felipe's country house for a while. Natércia invites the intellectual Marcela and her boyfriend broker Ricardo for a weekend together. Luiz's world is upset and the existential problems of all get entangled, with unexpected results.
