Tom Atkins Blues II - Nowhere

Summary Tommy has run his cafe for 15 years, at the heart of a diverse and relatively poor neighbourhood. A communal living room, where people find a sense of belonging. But the cafe it not just the domain of the old residents; tourists, hipsters and new neighbours are just as welcome and indeed feel welcome in Tom's "Front Room". But market forces are sweeping through the neighbourhood. Changes are breathtakingly quick, talk is of rising rents and moving on. People's hopes and fears are in the balance as the social fabric is dismantled and the less wealthy and disadvantaged are forced on. When his cafe faces a rent increase of 130%, Tom knows his time is up. The demise of the cafe brings with it a sense of loss, yet another nail in the coffin for the local community. Yet for Tom there is a real sense of déjà vu, as people around him try to come to terms with events. This is the NOW and HERE. Welcome to NOWHERE. Tom Atkins returns with a new document, mixing acted and documentary scenes, made in and with the local Neukölln community: but in more complicated times. View more details
