For Toaru Corporation, a large Osaka-based trading company, times are tough. At the products trading division in the Tokyo office of this struggling company, desperation is always in the air as this on-the-verge-of-being-downsized group tries hard to find a new business niche to survive. Their morale low and their activity listless, the group needs leadership. Enter Assistant Manager Hamada to shake things up. "Jornalistas" tells about a group of journalists who work for the newspaper "A Gazeta". Clara is divorced and has a daughter, and shares her apartment with Ana. Vitor, the oldest journalist on the newspaper, lives with his girlfriend Matilde, a secretary for the "Gazeta." Luís is the editor of the newspaper, divorced and currently living with his daughter Inês. Alex is a skirt-chasing photographer, and José António is the trainee for the society section at the "Gazeta". Laura is still single and lives with her mother, who is always trying to get her daughter a husband. Bia is also a journalist, and is still single. The adventures of this group of friends and colleagues, whether they are at a party, at the café, at work, or doing reports and investigating around the city, is the main plot for this series, every episode of which has guest appearances.

Marie Fukabori (Eiko Koike) is a legendary wedding planner. She runs her own company and is respected by the workers there. She works hard and energetically at her job, but, at home, she is surrounded by 3 losers. They are her husband, son, and father. Her husband is an unpopular manga artist. Her son dreams of becoming an idol, but he has failed at his auditions and is now distrustful of people. Her father was informed that he was getting divorced and came to Marie Fukabori's home.
