The Tamarind Seed

While traveling through a small village a famous composer and his manager discover a young man, Joseph Gold, with a beautiful voice. They offer him the lead role in their new opera and Gold leaves the village to find fame and fortune. Gold falls in love with an opera diva and converts from Judaism to Christianity in order to marry her. Suddenly, things is starting to go wrong as Joseph's son passed away and Joseph hearing from his father what happened, he decided to make amends as he quits the show business to settle his affairs.

An accounting manager commits suicide one night at work, leaving a letter. The incident immediately turns attention to the factory where he was employed. The letter mentions that the company is engaged in tax evasion.

Every year this city lives through the miracle of white nights. It is the time when, it seems, everything holds its breath, the past, the present and the future flowing simultaneously. The two heroes meet each other on a bridge: he is a shy and lonely dreamer taking photos of the city all nights long. He feels for all strangers - and even houses - on his way. She is fragile, in love with someone else, her radiant face is wet from tears... Three white nights of sincerity and romanticism... of sadness and quiet joy... of kissing and embracing... But in the end there comes the morning... In fact Petersburg plays one of the central roles in this film: during white nights it intensifies the magic of the events. Petersburg becomes a part of the heroes' inner world: their souls are entirely filled with it, and altogether they become one single whole. Through this film one can see that miracles do happen in people's life - something which will affect their future...

Emma Goldman has just arrived in New York City to join a small group of anarchists. She is excited to meet Johann Most, a left wing newspaper publisher, who is renowned within the movement. His primary mantra is espousing the eight hour work day. But as Emma becomes more involved with Most in both a personal sense and for the cause, it brings up the idealistic struggles within the movement between someone like Most who has the ear of the public, and Sasha Berkman, a younger anarchist who has his own thoughts about how best to forward the cause. Berkman, with who Emma would begin a personal relationship, believes that assassinating steel magnate Henry Clay Frick - who many see as the puppet for industrialist Andrew Carnegie - over the Homestead Steel strike would send an important message, one that Most believe foolish. From this struggle would emerge Emma's own voice within the cause.
