A group of poor people in Raleigh County, West Virginia organize when strip mining is damaging their houses and community. They work to get the state legislature to pass some strong laws protecting citizens against coal mining interests.

Arun, an Indian filmmaker from Madras, a city in southeast India, befriends a young eunuch named Sardha. In a series of conversations with the film maker, Sardha tells of his transformation from a young boy to a member of the Order of Eunuchs and how the group survives living on the margins of Indian society.
