Summary The Hayloft Gang takes us back to an era when the sounds of barn dance radio filled living rooms from coast to coast, and traces the history of one of the longest running and most popular radio shows, The National Barn Dance. From the Great Depression through the hardships of World War II, this Chicago based variety show celebrated America's early country and folk music traditions. The documentary weaves rare performance footage, photographs and home movies, with first hand accounts from performers and fans of the radio show. The soundtrack features cowboy crooners, mountain string bands, folk balladeers and more.... all the while reminding us of impact and role The National Barn Dance had in shaping American music and popular culture.
