The Enemies

Paolina is the illegitimate daughter of the Duke of Vallenza, and lives as a beggar. She meets with Nunzio, a blind man who plays violin, exploited by his stepfather, and the two fall in love. The old Duke, remorsing, tries to find his daughter but he doesn't manage and leaves everything to his latest concubine, Livia, while Nunzio and Paolina will live in misery.

When a teenage alien girl named Stella crash-lands on Earth from the distant planet Yohines, she is "adopted" by a kind-hearted family with a younger son. While Stella and the boy quickly become inseparable, her yearning for her faraway home in the Dimonope galaxy casts a bittersweet shadow over their adventures.

An engineer in New York is unhappily married to a politically ambitious wife. When their son dies due to his wife's neglect, he deserts her and goes to South America to help build a bridge. But he loses interest in life, starts drinking, and loses his job. As he is about to hit rock bottom, he meets a cabaret dancer named Carita who helps him recover. He falls in love with her. When his wife loses her senatorial race, she goes to South America to reunite with him. Carita mistakenly believes that he still loves his wife, and decides to kill herself.

Sophie and Mathieu, a couple in their thirties, go to Schefferville to settle the estate of Sophie's father's cottage, a former miner in this almost ghost town. There, Sophie meets up with Réjean, her uncle, also a former miner. But when a tragic incident involving Réjean occurs on the spot, with Mathieu as the only witness, the trip takes an unexpected turn. Forced to stay longer than expected while the police investigation gets underway, the couple finds itself isolated from the rest of the world, singled out, in contact for a rare time with the complex reality of the Aboriginal people. Sophie and Mathieu see their relationship in jeopardy, each taking an opposite path in their reaction to this oppressive situation, in this closed-door setting in the great outdoors.
