The Empress

Ikigami takes place in a dystopian society where the government has implemented the "Prosperity Law". This law dictates 1 in 1000 random citizens ages 18~24 will die for the state in a mandatory lottery. Death occurs at a preset date and time, which is when an injected nano-capsule, received at an early age, explodes. The law is meant to create appreciation for life by instilling fear in order to make people live the best possible lives.

Set in the heart of Mumbai, ZOO depicts lifestyles in and around the ghetto co-existing with the people residing in the upmarket, high-rise buildings of Mumbai. It is a story of a bunch of youngsters trapped and fighting their existence, and traces their lives through 4 parallel tracks. The film delves and inter-weaves the lives of 2 teenaged Dharavi rappers, a coffee-shop waiter who runs his drug delivery at the coffee shop, an under-aged teenage girl who hasn't left her posh South Mumbai apartment in 2 years as she lives the guilt of accidently killing her friends, and another girl staying in the slums working as house help in upmarket Mumbai. As we follow them, we realize that either they are fighting their identities, or are trying to alter their realities or have reluctantly succumbed to it.

The Road to Urmi is based on a true historical story of the Assyrian Genocide. The story takes us back to 1915, following the Ottoman's declaration of the war against the Assyrians who lived under their authorities. The Assyrians are viciously attacked and massacred by the Ottoman Turks. Beginning with the kidnapping of Hormiz, the brother of Patriarch Mar Benyamin Shimun, in order to force him to surrender his people and weapons to an inevitably unjust and brutal death in the hands of the Turks. Tragically, Patriarch Mar Benyamin is pressed to make one of the most difficult decisions of his life. He sacrifices his beloved brother for the safety and honor of Assyrians to secure their future. The Assyrians leave behind their ancestral land attempt to escape through the unforgiving and rough mountain terrain of Turkey and into Urmi, Iran. The story revolves around Miriam and her ten-year old son, Emmanuel, who manage to flee from the Turkish army while doing her best to shelter her son from the gruesome reality of mass destruction of villages and genocide everywhere. On their journey, they meet David who stayed behind to witness the events committed by the Turks and be an informant for the Patriarch. David attempts to help Miriam and Emmanuel escape to Urmi, putting his life in immense danger.

Exquisitely beautiful and profoundly moving, What My Mother Told Me is a dramatic journey towards self discovery. The story focuses on Jesse, a young woman from England, who goes to Trinidad to bury her father. Reluctantly she agrees to meet her mother, whom she thought had abandoned her when she was a child. Her mother tells her stories, revealing a troubled and violent marriage, and Jesse is forced to face the truth about her past.
