The Dreamers

TV adaptation based on the eponymous book by Boris Vasilyev. Set in the Soviet Union in 1941, during the Second World War, Sergeant Vaskov of the Red Army is stationed at a remote artillery post. Vaskov is in charge of five young women recruited for military training. One day they are surrounded by a group of German paratroopers who were dropped into Soviet territory behind the front lines. Now Vaskov and his trainees must stop the enemy in an unequal fight.

Lithuania, 1941. German tanks and motorized columns broke into the border military town. Seven Soviet soldiers were cut off from the garrison. Without food and weapons, they went through the occupied territory to the location of the Red Army units.

Koji Namiki, a talented young pitcher, who had won the National High School Baseball Championships enters university, but soon afterwards injures his elbow. He and his teammates work hard to get back on the field placing all his hopes on a new slow-ball, "the magic pitch." However, the outbreak of WWII wipes out the baseball ambitions from everyone. They join the military and in the navy undergo the severe training that prepares them for death. Death awaits them in a "kaiten" (special attack submarine or "human torpedo") within the gloomy ocean depths, but Koji never gives up his dream of the "magic pitch."
